“Gardening with Children” presented by Sonya Harris who spearheaded the award-winning Bullock Children’s Garden in Glassboro, NJ.

Garden-based learning has been proven to increase overall learning.  She will discuss the academic, social-emotional and nutritional wellness aspects of gardening with children of all abilities and ages. Sonya is a former special education teacher with over 20 years of classroom experience. Bullock Garden assists in teaching gardening while providing organic produce to the local low-income community. She loves spending time gardening with children and teaching others how to grow healthy food at home.  She helps children turn their “I can’ts” into “I can do anything”. After a year of planning and partnerships with landscape and horticultural experts from across the county, the Bullock Elementary Children’s Garden became a reality in May, 2015.

Sonya is a Certified Rutgers Master Gardener and Sustainable Jersey Green Team Leader in Glassboro. She is a contributing writer and editor for The Spruce and Martha Stewart Living. She has won many awards including South Jersey Magazine’s One to Watch, NJ Agricultural Society’s Learning Through Gardening Teacher of the Year and Project Green Schools Outstanding Green Education Program Director.
